📸✨ Prepare to journey through a decade of boudoir portraits! It's hard to grasp that I've dedicated an entire decade to this beautiful genre of photography!

In this blog post, I invite you to take a peek into my world. You'll find a selection of my favourite images from the past 10 years, each one a testament to the art of Boudoir Portraits.

2013 - my first boudoir session

Nadia (in red) and Regine (in green). I grew up with these two beautiful women! I saw these two grow up from awkward teenagers to beautiful women and they asked ME to take sexy photos. It was a strange request at the time because I also didn't understand what true beauty and what sexy meant. I was 23 years old.

People ask me, "How did you get into boudoir photography?" I tell them this.

These are the first ever Boudoir Photos I've ever taken. Both of these women are not very *feminine* in the stereotypical sense. They don't often do their hair, makeup or dress up. They see themselves as more "tomboy-ish". But they wanted beautiful sexy photographs of themselves to send to their boyfriends.

All I knew how to do was simple direction and how to use light. I didn't know anything about making women in less clothing feel comfortable! We played around with outfits, lighting and different poses.

After they saw the photos, they said "I've never seen myself like this before". I felt it. That's when I fell in-love with Boudoir Photography.

2014

After taking the photos of Nadia and Regine, my other friend Maria wanted to give it a try. Back then, we didn't have the means for a studio space, so she booked a room with ZERO windows at a hotel. Seriously, it was a room that had a window facing a POOL.

I took my flash + my umbrella and faked what a window looked like.

At this photoshoot, I experimented with all kinds of lighting styles and poses. Import modelling was very popular back then so I copied a lot of those poses. However, this is the photo that has remained some of my favourite for the past 10 years. I also saw her have it as her Phone Background for a long time!

2015 to 2016

From 2015 to 2016 ~ I call this time my dark years. I didn't do any photography during this time because I was so down on myself. Then in 2017, I picked right up and said "Yes" to every opportunity.

Unfortunately, I broke my external hard drive too so I don't have a lot of photos from 2017 to 2020. If you know how to fix it, please contact me!

2017

When I say that 2017 was my "Yes Year", I meant it. I said yes to every photography opportunity. (I'll share some of my old non-boudoir portraits on my blog soon).

I studied how to help women feel comfortable in front of the camera, how to light them and how to pose every type of body. This was a BIG year for my career.

This is a photo of Lindsey ~ one of the first boudoir clients I ever had. Funny story ~ I had no idea how old she was but I was too afraid to ask her. So I asked my Makeup Artist at the time to check her ID HAHAHA

2018

About 6 months into my "Yes Year", I started getting very busy. It is some of my favourite memories because I met so many beautiful and inspiring women. It was a year of connections and creativity.

This is Kamini ~ she is bold, loud and confident! She wanted sexy photos to really show this side of herself.

2018-2020

Between 2018 and 2020 I was back and forth from Winnipeg to Vancouver. I lived in Vancouver but still had so many clients in Winnipeg! I had to fly back to take portraits ~ it was a dream!

The 3 photos above and the 3 below are from that time. (I wish I had way more photos to show but I lost them!)

2019 (Vancouver)

When I moved to Vancouver, I had no idea that studio space was so hard to come by. It was not only hard, it was pricey.

I found one in a shared Arts + Business space downtown. I barely used it because it didn't have a lot of natural light so I had to make due and use a strobe.

2019 to 2020

I left the studio warehouse studio and moved into a studio apartment downtown by Sunset Beach! It wasn't a big photo studio or anything, it was an actual studio apartment. We had no bedroom and a tiny kitchen but I was determined to still do photography. The below photos are from that Apartment we had by Sunset Beach.

The weather influenced the lighting of each photoshoot. Most of my photos was more dark and moody because of the many cloudy rainy days in Vancouver. This is when I learned to use shadow and silhouettes to convey an emotion.

2020-2021

We all know what happened in 2020 so I had to completely halt my boudoir photography because it was done indoors. I started doing more outdoor business branding and family portraits.

At the end of 2020, I moved back to Winnipeg to accomodate my growing family. Because of the height of the pandemic, I also stopped doing portraits for a short time to protect my families health.

2022

Then in 2022, I found a beautiful studio downtown in the exchange of Winnipeg. This is where I have all my photoshoots and where I still photograph today.

In this space, I began using different backgrounds! Below are some of my favourite from 2022.

Even if I’ve changed my camera, the studio, my editing, what remains the same is:

✨ I help everyday women feel gorgeous in front of my camera

✨ I help each one FEEL beautiful in their skin

✨ I CONNECT with each person deeply

✨ Complete posing, direction and guidance helps them feel confident

✨ Giving every one of these people an experience they’ll never forget

✨ Each person who is in front of my camera, leaves feeling more CONFIDENT and BEAUTIFUL.

Wouldn't you say that's priceless?

In the end, my journey through Boudoir Photography has not just been about capturing beauty, it's been about empowering people. It's been about helping them see their beauty, and in doing so, helping them to embrace their vulnerability and strength. It's been an honor to be a part of so many people's journeys and I can't wait to see where the next 10 years will take me. Here's to more beauty, more confidence, and more unforgettable experiences!
